“The steel you build with and its carbon footprint really should matter – that’s the message that we hammer out to developers. A lot of them now have to hit certain sustainability targets, and we’re here to help them really focus on it,” says Nucor's Markus Mueller.
Traditionally though, extractive steelmaking in blast furnaces is carbon intensive – responsible for 7% of the world's carbon emissions. So, a new process developed by Nucor that produces steel using a much lower carbon technique is an incredibly exciting development for the industry.
